Ceredigion County Council operates a weekly co-mingled recycling system. Clear recycling bags provided by the council take paper, cardboard, tins and cans, Tetra Pak cartons, aerosols and plastics. Glass is collected separately every three weeks from a box provided by the council.
Food waste is collected weekly and residents are provided with 7-litre internal kitchen caddies for food waste as well as a 23-litre external caddy for use on collection days. 7-litre liners are free and the council sells 23-litre compostable liners at £1.50 for a roll of 25.
A fortnightly garden waste service is provided all year round, with residents being charged £1.40 per bag collected.
A bulky household waste service is available at the kerbside, collecting furniture and small and large WEEE for a cost of £47 for up to six items, and £47 for a further six items. Ceredigion County Council also works in partnership with reuse organisations CRAFT in Aberystwyth and New Life Community Projects in Cardigan, which offer free collections for furniture and household items in usable condition.
Residual waste is collected from black bin bags or waste bins every three weeks fortnight. The council says that all reasonable amounts of waste in black bags will be collected if sufficient effort has been made to recycle as much waste as possible.
There are four household waste sites across the county at Aberystwyth, Cardigan, Lampeter and Llanarth.
