Recycling service

Monmouthshire County Council (MCC) provides a weekly kerbside-sort collections service for recycling. This means it collects recyclable materials in separate containers.

It collects:

  • food waste every week, from a blue caddy using caddy liners provided by the Council for free; and

  • dry recycling every week,

    • from a reusable green box for glass bottles and jars,

    • from a reusable purple bag for metal cans, tins, aerosols and foil, plastic bottles, pots, tubs and trays, and food and drink cartons (such as Tetra Pak), and

    • from a reusable red bag for cardboard and paper.

MCC also collects:

  • nappies and hygiene waste every two weeks in single-use yellow sacks. Residents don't need to register for this free service and may collect yellow sacks from their local Community Hub;

  • garden waste every two weeks between March and December from a green wheelie bin, from homes registered for this chargeable service; and

  • non-recyclable waste every two weeks in up to two single-use black sacks.

The Council provides a furniture and large household item collections service for large items, managed by Homemakers Community Recycling. To find out how much this service costs, or to book a collection, residents should visit the Council’s website.

The Council manages three Household Waste Recycling Centres in the county. Residents must book an appointment before they visit a site.
